ISLAMABAD: Security forces have killed 24 terrorists belonging to what the military described as the Indian proxy “Fitna Al-Khwarij” during extensive joint intelligence-based operations launched in Bannu district and adjoining areas following the recent surge in terrorist attacks, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operations were initiated in the wake of increased terrorist activity targeting police and the vehicle-borne suicide bombing in Bannu, which claimed the lives of law enforcement personnel and innocent civilians.
ISPR said the 24 terrorists were killed during fierce exchanges of fire over the last 24 hours as security forces continued to pursue those responsible for the attacks and dismantle their support infrastructure.
A cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the slain terrorists, who, according to the statement, had been actively involved in multiple terrorist activities and the killing of civilians.
The military said operations in the area would continue until all perpetrators of the attacks are brought to justice.
It reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to pursuing the counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework, aimed at eliminating what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
