KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that there was a bumper wheat harvest in Punjab and Sindh. However, with the arrival of the crop, profiteers and hoarders bought and stored a large quantity of wheat.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the minister said that the Sindh government had recovered150,000 tons of wheat from the hoarders.
He warned the hoarders to give the wheat to the government so that the people could get relief.
According to him, after the stored wheat came into the market, prices decreased by 13 percent.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government took immediate notice of the murder of Dr. Akash Kumar and the police took effective action and arrested three accused, Anil, Ram Chand and Suresh, while the vehicle used in the incident was also recovered.
He appreciated the performance of the police and said that the government was ensuring immediate action against every serious crime.
The senior minister condemned the statements made against the martyrs and Ghazis and said that the Pakistani forces had defended the country on every front, and in the Pak-India war, the Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force defeated the enemy in a resounding manner.
He said that our soldiers consider martyrdom an honor for themselves.
He politely requested Maulana Fazlur Rehman to withdraw his statement, because, according to him, this statement received significant coverage in the Indian media, which benefited the enemy.
He said that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while responding to a question during one of his foreign visits, had said that he would only accept as his prime minister the person who was an example of national unity.
He said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had made the country invincible through his endeavors to make the country a nuclear power.
Regarding wheat, he said that Punjab and Sindh had made their own policies, and he did not think that wheat went from Punjab to Afghanistan. However, there was evidence of wheat going from Sindh to Punjab.
He clarified that according to the Constitution, no province had the authority to stop wheat from going to another province.
He said that the matter of Priya Kumari was a very serious matter, and the Sindh government’s stance on it had already come to the fore.
Addressing Mustafa Kamal, he said that if he wanted to stage a sit-in, he should first resign from the federal ministry. Regarding water shortage, he said that the Sindh government has written letters to the prime minister and the federal government several times demanding that Sindh be provided its share of water, and that IRSA fulfilled its constitutional responsibility and ensured fair distribution of water among the provinces as per the agreement.
On a question about Nasir Shah’s health, he said that the provincial minister had been to Dubai where his health deteriorated due to a blood clot in the brain, and he was admitted in a hospital there.
