LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Kashmiri freedom movement on Kashmir Martyrs’ Day.
In her message, the chief minister saluted the courage and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people who laid down their lives in the struggle for their right to self-determination.
She said the blood of every Kashmiri martyr, including the 22 martyrs of July 13, 1931, had become an enduring symbol of the Kashmiris’ quest for freedom. She urged the international community to play an effective role in ensuring the Kashmiri people are granted their legitimate right to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.
Maryam Nawaz said the unparalleled sacrifices of the Kashmir martyrs remained one of the brightest chapters in the history of the freedom movement. She added that the brave people of IIOJK had kept the flame of freedom alive through their sacrifices, and their courage and determination continued to inspire the ongoing struggle.
The chief minister expressed confidence that the sacrifices of the people of IIOJK would never go in vain and said the day was not far when the people of the occupied territory would witness the dawn of freedom.
