ISLAMABAD: Gwadar Port has carried out its first international ship-to-ship bunkering operation, marking a significant step toward positioning the deep-sea port as a regional marine fuel hub and expanding Pakistan’s role in global maritime trade.
The National Logistics Corporation (NLC), in collaboration with global energy trader Vitol, successfully supplied 2,500 metric tons of International Maritime Organisation (IMO)-compliant Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) to the UAE-owned LNG vessel ENUGU during the inaugural bunkering operation at Gwadar Port.
The marine fuel used in the operation was produced domestically by Cnergyico PK Limited at its refinery, demonstrating Pakistan’s ability to manufacture internationally compliant low-sulphur marine fuel required by global shipping lines.
Officials described the operation as a major milestone in developing Pakistan’s marine fuel supply chain and strengthening the country’s maritime services sector. They said the successful execution lays the foundation for establishing a comprehensive bunkering ecosystem capable of serving international commercial vessels calling at Gwadar.
