KARACHI: A power outage at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation’s Dhabeji Pumping Station has disrupted operations, reducing Karachi’s daily water supply by around 100 million gallons per day (MGD).
According to a KWSC Spokesman, the electricity breakdown affected the K-2 Pump House, causing a technical fault in the manifold chamber and main valves. Dewatering is under way to remove accumulated water, after which repair work will begin immediately.
He said the corporation has deployed technical teams on an emergency basis, with engineers and maintenance staff working round the clock to restore operations as quickly as possible.
Due to the malfunction, three major pumps at the K-2 Pumping Station have been shut down temporarily. The disruption is expected to reduce the city’s daily water supply from its normal level of about 650 MGD by nearly 100 MGD.
The temporary shortfall is likely to affect water supply in North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Buffer Zone, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and parts of Scheme 33, where supply may remain disrupted until repairs are completed.
The KW&SC appealed to consumers to cooperate, assuring that water supply would be restored in phases once repair work is completed. It said all available resources had been mobilized to rectify the fault and normalize water distribution at the earliest.
