KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau, Karachi, has handed over physical possession of four immovable properties valued at Rs348 million to the Ministry of Housing & Works, Islamabad.

According to official details, the property was confiscated by Karachi NAB from a former MNA and his spouse, who had been allegedly involved in corruption regarding accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.

Karachi NAB successfully conducted an inquiry and investigation and subsequently filed a reference against the accused and his spouse in the Accountability Court, Sindh, at Karachi.

The court decided the case in NAB’s favour, declaring the accused and his wife guilty.

The court, in its verdict, ordered 7 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs1 million each on both the accused, along with confiscation of four properties owned by them.

The convicts had first filed an appeal before the Sindh High Court in Karachi and subsequently before the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the verdict, but their appeals were dismissed.

Consequently, NAB took over the possession of four properties located in Khyaban-e-Shamsher, Phase-V Extension, DHA, Karachi; KDA Scheme-1-A Ext, Karachi; and two properties in Hawkes Bay Scheme42, Lyari Development Authority (LDA).

The properties had been handed over to the Director-General of Estate, Ministry of Housing & Works, Islamabad, in a ceremony held at NAB’s Regional Headquarters in Karachi.

Meanwhile, NABDG Shakeel Ahmed Durrani reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to recovering looted money/assets and returning those to the affected departments and individuals.

He further said that under the leadership of the Chairman of NAB, Lieutenant-General (R) Nazir Ahmed, NAB remained committed to combating corruption and corrupt practices with dedication and professionalism.
