From civil service for interim period: President signs ordinance to appoint Ogra chief
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has signed “the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) Amendment Ordinance 2026” for the appointment of an Ogra chairman from the civil service for an interim period.
The interim arrangement would be valid for a maximum period of three months or until a regular chairman is appointed, whichever occurs earlier. The interim arrangement is aimed at preventing the regulator from becoming ineffective during periods when the chairman’s position remains vacant.
According to a statement issued by the President House Press Wing on Tuesday, the President promulgated the ordinance on the advice of the Prime Minister.
The ordinance amends Sections 2 and 3 of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Ordinance, 2002.
The amendment has been enacted through a presidential ordinance following the Prime Minister’s recommendation.
