LAHORE: On the directions of Inspector General Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police ensured strict security arrangements across Lahore and the province on the fourth day of Muharram-ul-Haram.

Punjab Police spokesperson said that on 4th Muharram-ul-Haram, more than 31,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for processions and majalis across Lahore and the province. A total of 278 mourning processions and 3,907 majalis were held throughout the province. In Lahore, 17 mourning processions were taken out and 412 majalis were held in connection with 04 Muharram-ul-Haram. More than 23,000 community volunteers assisted in security arrangements for majalis and mourning processions across the province.

The IG said that security would remain on high alert across the province during the first ten days of Muharram-ul-Haram and implementation of Section 144 imposed by the Government of Punjab would be ensured. He said that aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material and provocative activities are prohibited. No processions or majalis will be allowed at any place other than the approved routes and designated venues. Complete monitoring of all activities is being carried out with the assistance of cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administrations.

IG Punjab further said that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, PRU and other field formations are deployed for Muharram security duties. Strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act will be ensured. Action against lawbreakers involved in the dissemination of hate material on social media will be ensured. He said that control rooms established in all districts are connected with the Central Control Room at the Central Police Office and will remain in constant coordination at all times.
