RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Sweet Home on Friday inaugurated the Syeda Fatimat-ul-Zahra Free Burial Service and a free community meal programme (Dastarkhwan) at the Municipal Corporation, Rawalpindi.
The facility was formally inaugurated by Rawalpindi Commissioner Engineer Amir Khattak.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Khattak praised Pakistan Sweet Home’s commitment to humanitarian work and pledged continued support from his administration for its welfare initiatives. He described the launch of the free burial and meal services as a significant step toward public welfare and expressed hope for the expansion of similar projects in the future.
He also suggested introducing free medical testing facilities at the centre.
Member of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, who attended as the guest of honor, said she had supported Zamurd Khan and Pakistan Sweet Home since its inception and would continue to stand by the organization.
She termed the free burial and meal services a commendable initiative for the people of Rawalpindi and encouraged greater public participation in charitable activities. She also praised Commissioner Khattak for his active role in welfare projects.
Addressing the gathering, Pakistan Sweet Home Patron-in-Chief Zamurd Khan said that more than 500 burials had already been conducted under the free burial service, providing vital support to underprivileged families. He said that the organization’s existing free Dastarkhwan at the District Headquarters Hospital serves 700 to 800 people daily.
The newly launched facility will further expand the service, ensuring that visitors receive quality meals in a dignified manner.
