PM Shehbaz postpones Switzerland visit: state TV

Published June 18, 2026 Updated June 18, 2026 07:58pm

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has postponed his planned visit to Switzerland as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran has already been signed and entered the implementation stage, according to state-run Pakistan TV.

Speaking live from Bürgenstock, Switzerland, PTV Managing Director Adil Shahzeb said the premier would no longer travel to Switzerland as the agreement was already in effect and the next phase would focus on technical-level discussions between Washington and Tehran.

“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has postponed his Switzerland visit as the Islamabad MoU is already signed and under implementation. The US-Iran technical talks will continue separately under the agreement’s framework,” Shahzeb said.

The development comes days after PM Shehbaz announced that a peace agreement had been reached between the US and Iran following intensive negotiations, with both sides agreeing to end military operations and pursue dialogue.

Swiss authorities earlier confirmed that senior representatives from the United States and Iran were expected to meet at Bürgenstock on June 19 in the presence of representatives from Pakistan and Qatar to formally advance the agreement aimed at ending hostilities between the two countries.

According to Shahzeb, the focus has now shifted to implementing the terms of the Islamabad MoU, while technical negotiations between US and Iranian officials will continue under the agreed framework.

Pakistan has played a key mediating role in facilitating contacts between Washington and Tehran, with the country’s political and diplomatic leadership actively supporting efforts to reduce tensions and promote a negotiated settlement.
