World Wind Day: Maryam commits to exploring alternative energy sources
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on World Wind Day, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to exploring new and non-conventional sources of energy.
She said wind energy has the potential to become a sustainable asset for meeting future energy requirements and that the vast opportunities for generating electricity through renewable wind power should be fully utilized.
The chief minister said the Thal region of Punjab possesses immense potential for harnessing wind energy. She added that World Wind Day provides an opportunity to think beyond traditional energy sources and explore innovative alternatives.
Maryam Nawaz said opportunities for developing wind energy projects through public-private partnerships in Punjab would be assessed. She added that the government aims to provide future generations with a healthy, clean and refreshing environment.
She further said the observance of World Wind Day is intended to raise public awareness about the unlimited potential of wind energy, its utilization and the importance of renewable energy resources. The chief minister emphasized that electricity generated from wind power plays a vital role in reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change without causing harm to the environment.
