ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with China and advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), saying the longstanding friendship between the two countries had reached new heights following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China.
Addressing a ceremony organized by Xinhua News Agency to mark the construction of CPEC, 75 years of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations and global governance initiatives, Tarar described the relationship as an “all-weather” and time-tested partnership built on mutual trust and shared interests.
He said Pakistan and China shared a unique bond that extended beyond conventional diplomatic relations, noting that the two countries proudly referred to each other as “iron brothers.” The minister said the friendship had been passed down through generations and remained a source of pride for both nations.
Highlighting the significance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, Tarar said the visit had injected fresh momentum into bilateral ties and reinforced both countries’ commitment to transforming their shared vision into tangible outcomes. He added that Pakistan and China not only shared a common border but were also connected through deep people-to-people relations and longstanding cooperation.
The minister praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s global governance initiatives, saying they were contributing to greater representation of developing countries and improving livelihoods across the Global South. He also termed CPEC a flagship project that had brought the people of Pakistan and China closer together while opening new avenues for economic growth and regional connectivity.
Tarar stressed the importance of cultural exchanges, media cooperation and people-to-people contacts in further strengthening the strategic partnership. He noted that despite changes in governments and global circumstances, Pakistan-China relations had continued to grow stronger with each passing year.
Recalling his own visits to China as a young officer in the Punjab government, the minister said such exchanges played a vital role in fostering mutual understanding and building a brighter future for both nations.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to advancing CPEC and supporting global governance initiatives, Tarar said the government would remain fully dedicated to implementing shared projects and deepening cooperation with China. He concluded his remarks by declaring, “Long live Pakistan-China friendship.”
