LAHORE: Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, reviewed the newly installed tablets in the assembly hall and described the digitalization initiative as a significant milestone in the modernization of the parliamentary system. Under the European Union’s IP-5 Programme, the Punjab Assembly has been provided with 380 state-of-the-art tablets, enabling the upcoming Assembly session to be conducted in a completely paperless environment.

The Speaker stated that Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) will receive legislative documents, including the agenda, bills, resolutions, questions, and other parliamentary papers, in digital format. He noted that the initiative will not only make Assembly proceedings more efficient, transparent, and expeditious but will also significantly reduce the consumption of time, resources, and public expenditure.

He further said that the transition to a paperless Assembly is expected to save millions of rupees annually while substantially reducing paper consumption, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and advancing the vision of a Green Parliament. He added that the adoption of modern technology will enhance members’ access to information, improve convenience, and strengthen the legislative process.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan emphasized that the world has entered a rapidly evolving digital era, making it imperative for parliamentary institutions to adapt to contemporary technological requirements. He remarked that just as the printing press revolutionized the dissemination of knowledge in its time, digital technology represents the transformative force of the modern age, promoting greater transparency, improved governance, and enhanced institutional performance.

Reaffirming his commitment to innovation, the Speaker expressed confidence that the Punjab Assembly is emerging as a modern, environmentally responsible, and technology-driven legislature that will serve as a model for other public institutions across the country.
