DPM Dar to participate in UNSC debate under China’s presidency this week

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar is scheduled to depart Beijing for New York for an official three-day visit, the Foreign Office announced on Monday.
During his visit from May 26–28, Dar will participate in a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate on Tuesday titled, “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System.” The debate is being convened by China under its rotating presidency of the Security Council and will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan welcomes China’s initiative, emphasising the need to strengthen multilateralism and the central role of the UN in addressing global challenges.
On Thursday, Dar will attend a meeting of the Group of Friends on Global Governance, focusing on reforming and improving global governance structures.
On the sidelines, he will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts as well as senior United Nations officials.
“Pakistan remains a steadfast supporter of multilateralism and stands ready to contribute constructively to collective efforts for global peace, security, and development,” the FO stated.
Dar is currently on an official visit to China along Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other dignitaries.
