Weather dept forecasts heatwave during Eid-ul-Adha holidays
Pakistan's Met Department forecasts a severe heatwave from May 25-31, coinciding with Eidul Adha. Temperatures will be significantly above normal, reaching up to 50°C in some regions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday forecast heatwave conditions in the country during Eid-ul-Adha holidays, starting on May 26.
Pakistan announced on Wednesday a three-day public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha, from May 26 to 28.
The Met Office informed that a high pressure is likely to develop in upper atmosphere on May 25 and likely to strengthen on May 26.
“Under the influence of this system, moderate to severe heatwave conditions are likely to develop over the country from May 25 to 31,” it said.
The weather advisory department said maximum temperature is likely to remain around 05 - 07 °C above normal and may rise to 42 - 45 °C in the districts of Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Kasur, Faisalabad, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber.
“Maximum temperature is likely to remain 05 - 07 °C above normal and may rise to 38 - 40 °C in the districts of Malakand, Hazara Division, Gilgit Baltistan, Bagh, Rawalakot, Neelum Valley, Haveli and Sudhanoti as well,” the PMD forecast.
According to the weather department, maximum temperature is likely to remain 04 - 06 °C above normal and may rise to 47 - 50 °C in the districts of Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Hyderabad, Matiyari, Tando Muhamad Khan, Umerkot, Ghotki, Khairpur, Nausheroferoze, Mirpur Khas, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Sibbi, Turbat, Panjgur, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Sargodha, Joharabad, Khushab, Mianwali, Noor Pur Thal, Jhang, Toba Tek Sing and Sahiwal.
The Met Office said very hot weather is expected in Karachi during the forecast period and maximum temperature is likely to remain up to 35-38 °C.
Night temperatures are also likely to rise during the forecast period.
The PMD advised general public especially children, women and senior citizens to be extra cautious due to heatwave condition
Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions and take care of their livestock as well.
General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight from (1000 to 1600 PST) and remain hydrated.
Electricity demand/consumption may increase during the forecast period. Judicious use of water is requested in all aspects of life.
The weather department advised all concerned authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation during the forecast period.
