Qatar expressed on Thursday support for diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Pakistan to help ensure the security and stability of the Middle East.

The development came as Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed the evolving regional situation during a telephone conversation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The two leaders held a “productive exchange of views on the current regional situation”, it added. “Both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to facilitating ongoing efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region.”

Al Thani expressed “deep appreciation for Pakistan’s continued efforts to bring peace and stability to the region”, the PMO said.

“He [Qatar’s prime minister] assured the prime minister that Qatar would continue to support diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Pakistan to ensure the security and stability of the Middle East.

“Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication and coordination on all issues of mutual interest,” the statement read.

While recalling his recent visit to Doha on April 16, PM Shehbaz said his meeting with Al Thani and the rest of the Qatari leadership was “most helpful in forging a consensus for the peace efforts”.

He further said people of Pakistan were looking forward to the visit of the Amir of Qatar at an early date convenient to His Highness, and that his visit would help to further strengthen and deepen Pakistan-Qatar ties.
