ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces have launched retaliatory strikes along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border after what officials described as unprovoked cross-border aggression by Afghan Taliban forces, including mortar fire that injured civilians in South Waziristan.

According to security sources, Pakistani troops, operating under Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq, targeted multiple Afghan Taliban positions and vehicles in the Chaman sector, destroying several posts with precision strikes and forcing opposing fighters to retreat.

The escalation follows a fresh incident earlier on Tuesday in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan, where mortar shells fired from across the border landed on a civilian home. The explosion injured five people, including four children aged 13, 10, 8 and 3, and a woman. All injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for treatment.
