Governor underscores need for protecting intellectual property rights

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Sunday stressed the importance of protecting intellectual property rights to promote innovation, creativity and economic growth.

In a message on World Intellectual Property Day, the Governor said, “Protection of intellectual property is essential for fostering creativity, innovation and economic development.” Encouraging youth, creators, and entrepreneurs is vital to this year’s theme, he emphasised.

He said Pakistan is working to strengthen legal frameworks and institutional mechanisms to safeguard intellectual property rights, while also promoting a supportive environment for new inventions, arts, music and technology.

The Governor highlighted ongoing awareness initiatives being carried out with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to improve understanding of IP rights.

He urged young people to register their creative work to ensure legal protection, noting that effective IP protection can help strengthen the national economy and enhance competitiveness at the global level.

Hashmi said sustained efforts in this area would contribute to innovation-driven growth and position Pakistan more effectively in the global knowledge economy.
