Pakistan to continue facilitating Iran-US talks for achieving regional peace, says Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting to review the evolving regional situation, reaffirming that Pakistan was actively facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States to promote peace and stability.

He stressed that Islamabad would continue its diplomatic efforts to support constructive engagement and de-escalation in the region.

“DPM/FM Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a meeting today to review the latest developments in the region. He reiterated that Pakistan is facilitating Iran-US talks for achieving peace and stability in the region and beyond. Pakistan will continue with its efforts in this regard.

“He also underlined that Pakistan’s official policy statements on Iran-US facilitation process are only those issued by official sources. Unnamed Pakistani officials or sources, whether quoted in print or social media, do not reflect Pakistan’s official position. He advised print and electronic media to refrain from speculative reporting and focus on official statements only,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Amid hopes of a breakthrough in the deadlocked Iran-US negotiations, an Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, arrived in Islamabad on Friday night ahead of the much-awaited second round of peace talks.

During the visit, the Iranian foreign minister will hold meetings with Pakistan’s senior leadership to discuss the latest regional developments as well as ongoing efforts for regional peace and stability.

An official described the Iranian delegation’s visit as a key step toward the resumption of direct talks with the United States aimed at ending the weeks-long conflict.
