KARACHI: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced production from the Baragzai X-1 well in the Nashpa block, marking a key addition to Pakistan’s hydrocarbon output and reinforcing efforts to strengthen domestic energy supplies.

In a notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange, the company said the Baragzai X-1 (Slant) well—earlier discovered in the Lockhart Limestone formation—has now been successfully brought online, with initial production of approximately 5,300 barrels of oil per day (BPD), 17 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, and 15 metric tons of LPG.

The development represents a significant step forward in monetizing recent discoveries, as OGDCL continues to fast-track the transition from exploration to production in a bid to enhance indigenous energy output.

To facilitate production, an 8-inch, 8.1-kilometre flow line has been laid to connect the well with the Mela facility, enabling processing at the Nashpa plant. The processed gas is now being injected into the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) network, contributing to the national gas supply system.

OGDCL, which operates the Nashpa Exploration License in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, holds a 56.45% working interest in the block. Its joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with 26.05% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with 17.50 percent.

Looking ahead, the company plans to move into Phase-II development, which includes drilling two appraisal wells to further delineate the reservoir and assess its full production potential. The company stated that the successful production commencement reflects its integrated approach to exploration, drilling, and development, with a focus on accelerating the conversion of discoveries into productive assets.

The disclosure was made in compliance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and relevant Pakistan Stock Exchange regulations.
