ISLAMABAD: A rare show of political unity emerged on Monday as both the government and opposition lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic role in efforts toward a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, terming it a positive step amid heightened regional tensions.
Talking to media outside Parliament House, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the “entire world” is acknowledging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir for what he called “historic diplomacy” aimed at de-escalation.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders to remain focused on public welfare during the ongoing challenging period, urging political forces to rise above differences in the national interest. Chaudhry also appreciated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for actively participating in key consultations and implementing collective decisions.
From the opposition benches, PTI leader Atif Khan echoed similar sentiments, welcoming efforts to halt the Middle East conflict. “Whoever is playing a role in stopping escalation is doing a good job,” he remarked, signalling bipartisan support for peace initiatives.
