6.1 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, parts of Punjab, KP, and AJK

  • Tremors also felt in Chitral, Peshawar, Swat, and Shangla

A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan late Friday night, with tremors felt across several parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad, and areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Azad Jammi and Kashmir.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake was recorded at 9:13 p.m. Pakistan Standard Time.

The depth of the quake was 190 kilometers, while its epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan.

Tremors were experienced across various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Azad Kashmir.

Cities where the earthquake was felt include Muzaffarabad, Skardu, Diamer, Rawalpindi, Murree, Taxila, and Hassan Abdal.


The tremors were also reported in Lower Dir, Kohat, Swat, Swabi, Shabqadar, and Parachinar.

Due to the earthquake, residents came out of their homes while reciting the Kalma Tayyiba.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, authorities said, adding that monitoring was underway.
