Milk price hike: Karachi fixes fresh milk at Rs240 per litre from April 1
- Govt says no individual or association will be allowed to charge above the notified rates
The government of Sindh has fixed new prices for fresh milk in Karachi, raising the retail rate to Rs240 per litre with effect from April 1, according to an official notification issued by the office of the Commissioner Karachi Division.
The notification, dated March 31, said the decision was taken under relevant provisions of laws governing essential commodities and prevention of profiteering.
Under the revised structure, dairy farmers will sell milk at Rs215 per litre, wholesalers at Rs225 per litre, and retailers at Rs240 per litre.
Authorities warned that no individual or association will be allowed to charge above the notified rates.
The notification will be displayed at prominent locations, and strict monitoring will be carried out to ensure compliance.
Officials also directed that milk must be sold in measurable quantities and stressed adherence to hygiene and quality standards.
The increase comes amid persistent concerns over rising costs, price fluctuations, and quality issues in the city’s milk supply chain.
