ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday expressed concern over a recent medical procedure conducted on its founding chairman Imran Khan at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), terming it “non-transparent” and calling for greater clarity regarding his treatment.

In a statement, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram said the party did not accept the manner in which the procedure was carried out, adding the lack of details had increased the party’s concerns about Khan’s health.

He said that any medical intervention involving a former prime minister should be conducted with “complete openness” and under the supervision of independent medical professionals.

The PTI spokesman demanded that Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital, where, he said, he could be treated under the supervision of his personal physicians.

He added that restricting access to his doctors raised ethical concerns.

Akram also criticised the conditions of Khan’s treatment, stating that the PTI founder was an internationally known political and sports figure and should be treated accordingly.

He warned that a lack of transparency in matters related to Khan’s health could have wider political and social implications, urging the authorities to ensure what he described as “transparent and humane” treatment.

The statement also called for the release of detained PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mahmoodur Rasheed and Omar Sarfraz Cheema, terming their cases politically motivated.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its political struggle and called for adherence to constitutional and legal norms.
