ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Naveed Qamar strongly criticized the federal government for increasing the prices of petroleum products, saying the decision has taken billions of rupees from the pockets of the people, while the impact of the rise in petroleum prices at the international level has not yet reached the country.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Monday, Naveed Qamar said that everyone knows Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz due to the war with America and Israel, and the movement of many oil ships has stopped. He said that oil shipments have become limited. He said, “We have immediately accepted the condition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) not to give subsidies to consumers and to pass the price increase on to the people. The government has increased petroleum prices by Rs55 ahead of time, while the impact of the rise in petroleum prices at the international level has not yet reached the country,” he said.
Syed Naveed Qamar claimed, “The government, oil companies, petrol pumps, and others will get billions of rupees in benefits due to the Rs55 increase in petroleum prices. The government has sufficient cushion in the form of a levy, but it is ready to take billions of rupees from the pockets of the people. The government is doing this to benefit someone.”
