LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has unearthed cases of electricity theft at properties owned by former Punjab Assembly member Malik Nadeem Abbas Bara during a targeted operation in Ittefaq Town area, in the provincial capital.

According to LESCO authorities, the raid was conducted in the Rana Town sub-division under the supervision of SE Central Circle Jamshed Zaman.

During the inspection, a plaza owned by Malik Nadeem Abbas Bara, comprising six flats and five commercial shops, was found drawing electricity through a direct illegal connection.

Authorities also detected an unlawful supply line at a dera owned by Malik Jahangir Abbas Bara at the same location.

Officials said that approximately Rs 950,000 in electricity dues were already outstanding against the registered connections. The illegal connections were disconnected on the spot, evidence was seized, and legal proceedings have been initiated, the officials said.

In a separate operation, the LESCO’s northern circle uncovered power theft at an industrial unit in the Shahdara area.

The joint inspection, supervised by SE (Operations) Northern Circle, was carried out by XEN Ravi Road Division Mirza Khalid and SDO Shahdara Ghazanfar Ali Bhatti at Latif Park.

A B-1 category industrial unit was found stealing electricity by drawing power directly from an LT line. At the time of the raid, a 12-kilowatt injection molding machine was operational.

Officials removed a four-core cable allegedly used for the illegal connection and registered a formal report. Further legal action is under way in accordance with the rules.

LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engr Ramzan Butt has said the company maintains zero tolerance for electricity theft and will continue indiscriminate action against violators.
