KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, on Saturday, laid the foundation stone for the construction and rehabilitation of the road from Gulshan-e-Hadeed Mor to Allah Wali Chowrangi.
Gulshan-e-Hadeed residential area, constructed by Pakistan Steel Mills for its employees in the early 1980s and managed by it for decades till its closure a few years back, falls in Bin Qasim Town, District Malir.
Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, PPP District Malir General Secretary Imdad Jokhio, MPA Sajid Jokhio, KMC City Council Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, other elected representatives, and a large number of citizens were present. Addressing the ceremony, Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that providing modern transportation facilities to the public is a top priority and that development projects are being implemented to make urban life easier. He stated that the estimated cost of the project is Rs396 million, while the road will be 2.33 kilometers long and 24 feet wide. Practical steps are underway to improve infrastructure in District Malir, and this project will significantly improve traffic flow.
That a 2.59-kilometer-long drainage line will be constructed to ensure proper stormwater disposal and a modern drainage system will provide relief to citizens during the rainy season.
The project also includes 153,000 square feet of paved shoulder area and a 4-foot-wide drain to ensure effective water drainage. Installation of streetlights and poles is also part of the project, which will further improve travel facilities at night. The Mayor said that development work in District Malir is ongoing and that these initiatives will provide citizens with better transportation facilities and quality infrastructure.

The Mayor announced the commencement of Rs400 million development scheme in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, stating that KMC has formally begun work on the project. The main road from Gulshan-e-Hadeed Mor to Allah Wali Chowrangi will be reconstructed.
According to engineers, the road construction and related work will be completed by the first week of June to provide improved travel facilities to citizens.
