LAHORE: Under the Chief Minister Punjab Livestock Card Programme, 26,507 cards (98pc of the target) were distributed and 297,198 ear tags (99pc of the target) were installed, strengthening the livestock registration and tracking system.
Furthermore, under the Chief Minister’s Special Initiative in South Punjab, the IInd phase of distribution of buffaloes and cows among widowed and divorced women is ongoing. So far, 1,107 animals have been distributed in three districts under Phase-II, while a total of 4,385 animals are scheduled for distribution as per the approved plan.
Provincial Minister for Livestock and Agriculture, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani in a meeting, reviewed ongoing development projects and departmental performance.
During the meeting, a performance report covering the period from July 2025 to January 2026 was presented.
According to the report, the department demonstrated remarkable performance during the review period and achieved most of its assigned targets.
Under the breed improvement programme, a total of 1.601 million artificial insemination cases were completed, achieving 105 percent of the target.
Officials highlighted significant success in the improvement of indigenous breeds, while further efforts are underway to enhance results in exotic breeds.
In the vaccination campaign aimed at protecting livestock from diseases, 120.87 million doses were administered, achieving 109 percent of the target. Performance against specific diseases was particularly notable, with 154 percent achievement against FMDV and 130 percent against ETV. However, there remains room for improvement in PPRV (76pc) and FMD-Imp (91pc).
In the field of veterinary healthcare, 4.70 million animals were provided treatment services. Additionally, 0.92 million animals were treated through Mobile Veterinary Dispensaries (MVDs), while 28,030 animals were examined using ultrasound machines, significantly improving service delivery in rural and remote areas.
For the effective enforcement of the Livestock Act, 3,031 samples were collected and 9 cases were registered, reflecting active monitoring and implementation of regulatory measures.
The Provincial Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani directed that special attention be given to areas where targets have not yet been fully achieved. He emphasised that the development of the livestock sector is essential for strengthening the rural economy and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilising all available resources for its improvement. He also announced that all future livestock hospitals will be constructed under a standardised design to ensure uniform facilities across the province.
