Punjab releasing 20,000MT of subsidised wheat to flour mills per day

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Department (PFD) is releasing 20,000 metric tons of subsidized wheat to 670 flour mills across the province on the government rate of Rs 3,000 per 40 kg to maintain steady availability of flour.

“Current wheat release is 100 percent of the province’s daily flour requirement,” said Director General Food Punjab Amjad Hafeez while talking to newsmen on Thursday. He said under the public-friendly policy of the Chief Minister Punjab, the uninterrupted supply of flour and price stability is being ensured across the province.

Amjad Hafeez further claimed that the supply of wheat to flour mills at subsidised rates has significantly improved the supply chain, ensuring the availability of flour in all districts of Punjab. He added that on the previous day, flour mills recorded a grinding of 34,000 metric tons of wheat, while 1.4 million flour bags were supplied to the market.He stated that the notified retail prices are Rs 905 for a 10-kg bag of flour and Rs 1,810 for a 20-kg bag. The Director General said that the continuous supply of 20,000 metric tons of wheat daily has eliminated any risk of flour shortage in the province. In cases of overcharging, price control magistrates are taking immediate and strict action.

Amjad Hafeez said the food safety and consumer protection department is actively conducting operations against hoarders, profiteers, and those involved in spreading rumours. He added that all administrative and field resources are being utilized to ensure the uninterrupted availability of flour across Punjab.
