ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has completed the initial feasibility report for the proposed Islamabad Inter-City Bus Terminal and is currently developing an optimal financial model to implement the project, which will be integrated with the capital’s Metro Bus and Electric Feeder Bus services to strengthen urban connectivity and ease traffic pressure on major roads.

The development was shared during a meeting between CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa and an ADB delegation at the CDA Headquarters on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by CDA Member Engineering Syed Nafat Raza, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Director General Resource, and other senior officials. Discussions focused on the establishment of the Inter-City Bus Terminal and other key development initiatives in the federal capital.

ADB consultants briefed the participants that the project will include modern electric charging points for electric buses, reflecting a shift toward sustainable and environmentally friendly public transport infrastructure.

The delegation also informed that ADB is providing technical support for the preparation of the Islamabad Transport Master Plan, aimed at improving mobility planning and long-term transit development.

Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized the need to expand cooperation in climate-friendly initiatives and requested ADB’s technical assistance in securing carbon credits for environmentally sustainable projects. He said the authority is utilizing all available resources to provide citizens with modern, eco-friendly, and efficient travel facilities.

Randhawa further said that the completion of the Inter-City Bus Terminal will significantly reduce traffic congestion on Islamabad’s major highways by improving the management of inter-city transport operations.

The meeting also reaffirmed the commitment to fully benefit from ADB’s technical expertise, experience, and institutional capacity in implementing sustainable infrastructure projects in the capital.
