ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take indiscriminate and strict action against mafias involved in illegal immigration.
The minister said this while presiding over a meeting. He also ordered an effective crackdown on professional beggar networks and those facilitating or backing them. The meeting reviewed the performance of the FIA’s Immigration Wing.
During the meeting, a detailed assessment was conducted of the ongoing derive against illegal immigration and human smuggling. The participants also reviewed actions being taken against professional beggar mafias operating across the country.
“No leniency will be shown to elements involved in human smuggling,” the interior minister said, adding that the government would not allow Pakistan’s image to be tarnished under any circumstances.
Naqvi directed the FIA to ensure effective enforcement of immigration laws. He further emphasized the need to strengthen the immigration checking system at airports and directed officials to carry out strict screening of travel documents.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary Interior, Director General (DG) FIA, and Directors of the FIA Karachi and Lahore zones.
