Ombudsman’s intervention: 78 students get Rs6m pending scholarships

LAHORE: The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab has secured the release of long-pending educational scholarships amounting to Rs 6 million in favour of 78 students from across the province following its intervention to address prolonged administrative delays.

According to official sources, the students had approached the Ombudsman, stating that their scholarships had remained pending for several months due to procedural lapses and bureaucratic hurdles within concerned government departments and educational institutions, adversely affecting their academic pursuits.

Taking cognisance of the complaints, the Ombudsman Punjab directed the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive review of the cases, fix responsibility for unnecessary delays, and ensure disbursement strictly on merit. The office also stressed the importance of transparency and timely processing of scholarship cases to prevent recurrence.

In compliance with these directives, the departments concerned revisited the pending cases, resolved documentary and procedural issues, and subsequently released scholarships totalling Rs 6 million to the eligible students.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Office of the Ombudsman Punjab for timely relief and for safeguarding their right to fair and prompt administrative justice.
