LAHORE: Former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has strongly condemned the approval of a controversial Indian hydropower project on the Chenab River, calling it a direct violation of international agreements.
Raja Pervez Ashraf in statement said that India is blatantly undermining the Indus Waters Treaty through, what, he described as “water aggression.” He said the approval of the Dilhasti Stage-II hydropower project is a direct attack on Pakistan’s water rights.
He accused the Modi government of attempting to take revenge on Pakistan for the failure of “Operation Sindoor,” adding that India is using water as a new battlefield after facing setbacks on diplomatic and military fronts.
The former prime minister warned that if the Indian government crosses the red line, it risks losing control of the Line of Control (LoC). He urged India not to push the Pakistani people and armed forces into launching “Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos II.”
Raja Pervez Ashraf further asserted that Pakistan would defeat the Modi government in the water domain as well, just as it has done on diplomatic and military fronts.
He called upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to immediately raise the issue of the controversial Indian project before the International Court of Justice.
