ISLAMABAD: A difference of opinion emerged between members of the Senate, on Tuesday during the meeting of Sub-Committee of the Senate House Committee over the outsourcing of janitorial and lift services at the Parliament Lodges.
During the meeting, committee member Danesh Kumar from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) stated that the outsourcing model has completely failed over the past six years.
“The conditions have worsened instead of improving. The absence of lift operators, particularly during night shifts, is extremely concerning. The malfunctioning lifts could result in senators being stranded,” he said.
Waqar Mehdi from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) expressed strong reservations over the ongoing repair works at the Parliament Lodges. He stated that the condition of flats in the lodges is unsatisfactory, with roofs on the top floors in an extremely dilapidated state.
Presiding over the meeting, Nasir Mahmood from Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) pointed out that expenditures of up to five million rupees have been shown for some residential units, while residents claim that work of such magnitude was not carried out.
