KARACHI: Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has assured that special arrangements are being made for fool proof security, cleanliness and the provision of civic amenities around churches on Christmas.

During a meeting in his office on Wednesday, which was also participated by the delegation of First United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, the Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners to take required measures in their respective districts ---in consultation and coordination with the Christian community and church administrators-- to ensure security, cleanliness, civic facilities and the arrangement for the traffic flow at churches on the eve of the Christmas.

He said that the police and other security agencies, Karachi Municipal Corporation, town municipal corporations, cantonment boards, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, Solid Waste Management Authority and traffic police have been directed to take priority actions.

These will include ensuring special cleaning around churches, functional street lights and smooth traffic flow during Christmas celebrations. The KE has also been asked to avoid load shedding at all churches on Christmas.

On this occasion, a delegation from the First United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan briefed the Commissioner about the Christmas peace rally organized by the Christian community for 21st December.

The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner (East) to provide the necessary facilities for the rally. The delegation included the Chairman of Rapha Mission International, Pastor Suleman Manzoor, former Senator Anwar Lal Dean and others.

Meanwhile, on the Commissioner’s directives, Additional Commissioner-I, Ghulam Mehdi Shah, held a meeting with senior officials of the relevant departments to review the arrangements for Christmas celebrations at churches.

He directed the concerned departments to take the necessary steps to provide civic amenities and support the events at the churches.
