ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, reiterating that eliminating corruption remains essential for national progress.
In separate messages issued on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, observed on Tuesday, both leaders said that global observance serves as a reminder that the fight against corruption is a shared responsibility — one that requires the active participation of governments, civil society, media, and citizens.
President Zardari urged public officeholders, professionals, and the general public to renew their pledge to uphold integrity and ethical conduct. He said that strengthening institutions and promoting a culture of honesty are keys to ensuring long-term stability and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the fight against corruption one of the government’s foremost priorities. He said that concrete actions are underway and the National Accountability Bureau, along with other relevant institutions, is rigorously working to enforce accountability at all levels without discrimination.
Both leaders emphasized that transparency, the rule of law, and public trust form the foundation of a strong and prosperous Pakistan.
