KARACHI: A three-day Sindh Youth Science and Technology Festival, organized under the patronage of the Sindh Government, concluded successfully.
At the Science Festival, students from Dow University secured first place with their medical innovation, the “Shifa App”, winning a cash prize of 100,000 rupees along with a shield.
The festival, hosted by the Sindh Government’s Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, was held at the Sindh Youth Club in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The closing ceremony was attended by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, as the chief guest, while Secretary Sports, Munawar Ali Mahesar, was also present. Commissioner Karachi visited various stalls and interacted with the youth to learn about their projects, a communique said.
According to the spokesperson, more than 70 students from over 40 public and private universities presented projects related to science, technology, and social welfare. A modern AI robot, capable of answering questions in both Urdu and English, became the highlight of the exhibition. The students shared that it took 7 to 8 months of effort to build the robot.
Other projects showcased included an electric bicycle, low-cost housing models, and residential designs specifically for the transgender community, which the participants highly appreciated.
Students from Larkana presented Pakistan’s first low-cost solar-wind turbine, capable of generating electricity simultaneously from wind and sunlight. The project cost approximately 50,000 rupees and can power basic household appliances.
Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, distributed prizes among the students who presented outstanding projects. Dow University students won first place with a cash prize of 100,000 rupees, Ziauddin University students secured second place with 75,000 rupees, and Hamdard University students achieved third place with 50,000 rupees. Additionally, the Commissioner announced an extra reward of 25,000 rupees each for the winning teams.
In his address, Commissioner Karachi praised the initiative, stating that the exhibition organized by the Department of Sports was commendable. He emphasized that the projects prepared by the youth align with national, industrial, and developmental needs. He added that such efforts encourage talented youth and provide them with opportunities to polish their skills. He also expressed hope that similar programs should be organized for school students as well.
Secretary Sports, Munawar Ali Mahesar, remarked that under the instructions of Sindh’s Minister for Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, this festival was organized for the first time at the government level to showcase the talent of youth and demonstrate to industrialists that Sindh’s youth are not behind in any field.
The spokesperson further mentioned that the festival also included a book fair, informational stalls, and musical performances. More than 1,500 students from across the province participated in the event.
The ceremony was also attended by Director of Sports Asad Ishaq, Deputy Director Youth Affairs Syed Habibullah, Assistant Directors Rizwan Ahmed Mallah, Moiz Ahmed Soomro, Fareed Ali, DSOs Syed Ismail Shah, Muhammad Usman, Shakeel Ahmed, Sunny Parvez, along with professors and faculty members from various universities.
