ISLAMABAD: In a bid to ensure the timely completion of the Jinnah Medical Complex (JMC), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday called for the acceleration of work, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to meet the project’s deadlines.

Chairing a meeting of the JMC Board, the Prime Minister reiterated that the project was poised to become a landmark in healthcare, not just for Pakistan, but for the wider region.

“This initiative has the potential to be a model of excellence in the field of health, not only for Pakistan but for the entire region,” he added.

The JMC Board expressed its gratitude to the Prime Minister for his continuous support and leadership throughout the project’s development, highlighting that his guidance has been instrumental in advancing the project through its various phases.

In a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister, officials said that work is progressing on the establishment of world-class medical services, as well as advanced facilities for medical training, education, and research.

They said that the project, which aims to integrate the latest technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and robotics, will ensure that the facility meets the highest global standards in healthcare and medical research.

Officials present at the meeting emphasised that the JMC will not only serve as a premier healthcare facility but also as a hub for medical innovation, positioning Pakistan as a leader in healthcare research and education in the region.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, for its technical assistance at various stages of the JMC construction, acknowledging the invaluable contribution the university has made to the project’s success.

Suleman Shahbuddin, the president of AKU, attended the meeting specifically to offer valuable insights regarding the proposed JMC.

Officials’ privy to the meeting said that, as a seasoned expert in the healthcare sector, he provided key insights to ensure the complex meets international standards in medical care, education, and research, positioning it as a world-class institution from the outset.
