ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward enhancing public convenience, the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) will soon start the installation of self-service kiosks across the country to facilitate the renewal and re-issuance of the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs).

The initiative aims to provide citizens with easy access to CNIC services while reducing long queues and waiting times at Nadra centres, said Nadra spokesperson Shabahat Ali at Data Fest 2025 held at the Pak-China Friendship Centre.

The main objective of the event was to bring together students from top educational institutions, government and private sector experts, researchers, and other stakeholders to discuss new ideas and models for data collection, analysis, and policy-making in the digital age.

NADRA centres: Naqvi asks officials to ensure efficient service delivery

“The high-tech kiosks will enable citizens to renew or re-issue their CNICs without needing assistance from data entry operators or staff. Applicants will be able to capture their own photographs and thumb impressions through the machines,” he explained.

Highlighting Nadra’s outreach efforts, the spokesperson noted that more than 85 percent of the country’s population is already registered in the national database. “We are actively working to register the remaining citizens,” he said.

The Nadra official said Nadra has a fleet of 256 mobile registration vans operating across Pakistan. These vans are primarily used to provide identity cards and registration services to citizens in remote or underserved areas, he said.

He said on top of it, we have presence in every registered Tehsil and every registered district of Pakistan, 937 officers have been established so far.

The revolution that we are bringing is that we have brought Nadra’s entire services, the entire spectrum of our services, now is a part of our normal application, he said, adding that Nadra has introduced a new and updated version of its Pak ID app, aiming to digitize the complete process of applying for identity documents and related services.
