LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has uncovered large-scale electricity theft during its ongoing crackdown in Lahore and Kasur, disconnecting several meters, recovering outstanding dues, and arresting 11 individuals.

According to LESCO officials, a major operation was carried out in Lahore’s Shalamar Division against illegal electricity use at a marquee (event hall). The inspection, conducted jointly with Rangers personnel, revealed that two electricity meters had been tampered with and were immediately disconnected.

The team discovered nine cabinet air conditioners (4 tons each), two split air conditioners (1.5 tons each), and a large lighting setup running through unauthorized means. Officials said all proceedings were conducted in the presence of Rangers, and a request for FIR registration has been submitted to the concerned police station.

In a separate operation in the rural areas of Chunian, District Kasur, LESCO teams recovered Rs760,000 in outstanding dues and apprehended 11 individuals involved in electricity theft. The suspects were handed over to the police, and FIR registration is in process. A wedding hall owner was also arrested for illegally drawing electricity directly from a distribution transformer’s LT line.

LESCO office attacked: In a related incident, a group of unidentified armed men attacked the LESCO Airport Subdivision office, seriously injuring two employees.

According to a company spokesperson, the attack occurred following a successful anti-theft operation in Gohawa Tibba, jointly conducted by LESCO and Rangers. The suspects involved in power theft had earlier fled the site upon seeing police presence but later returned with six to seven armed men who stormed the office.

During the assault, LESCO employees Farooq (Lineman) and Irfan (Assistant Lineman) were brutally beaten, and government vehicles were damaged. A case has been registered at the RA Bazaar Police Station. The spokesperson added that LESCO Chief Executive Officer has taken serious notice of the incident and directed authorities to ensure strict legal action against those responsible.
