HYDERABAD: The University of Sindh’s Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and the Sindh (Inland) Fisheries Department, Government of Sindh have agreed to jointly celebrate World Fisheries Day 2025 at Keenjhar Lake.

The decision was made during a coordination meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri at his office.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Prof. Dr. Khalid Hussain Lashari, Deputy Director Inland Fisheries Dr. Ghulam Qadir Jamali, Dr. Muhammad Younis Laghari and Dr. Punhal Khan Lashari along with other faculty and officials.

Dr. Qadir Jamali formally invited the University of Sindh to collaborate with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries for the event to be graced by the Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Muhammad Ali Malakani as Chief Guest and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Marri as Guest of Honour.

Both institutions affirmed their commitment to jointly organizing the event to promote sustainable fisheries, aquatic biodiversity and public awareness on the sector’s role in food security and economic growth.

It was also agreed in the meeting that the celebration would be held alternately each year between the two institutions with the 2026 event hosted by the University of Sindh.

VC Dr. Marri on the occasion emphasized strengthening academic–government linkages to advance fisheries research, improve the welfare of fishing communities and boost the national economy through enhanced aquaculture productivity.
