KARACHI: Provincial Minister of Energy, Development and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that there are vast and profitable opportunities for domestic and foreign investors to invest in the energy sector in Sindh.
He said Sindh is Pakistan's energy hub, which has 55,000-MW of wind corridor and 10-GW solar potential.
He said this during a meeting with the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at Department of Energy.
Chairman Planning Board Sindh Najam Ahmad Shah, Secretary Energy Department Kazim Jatoi, Director Sindh Coal Authority Haq Nawaz Shar, Director Alternative Energy Mahfooz Qazi and other officers were also present.
Minister said that 1845-MW of electricity is being generated from wind and 250-MW from solar energy and being provided to the national grid in provincial Sindh. The meeting was informed that the work on various projects to generate 100-MW of electricity from waste, 15-MW from water, 400-MW from float on solar and 500-MW from green hydrogen technology is also in progress.
The meeting was informed that with the support of the World Bank, all government buildings are being shifted to solar. Moreover, 400-MW solar parks are being built.
The British High Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the Sindh government and especially the energy department in various energy projects, and while appreciating the same, assured that she will use all possible efforts and measures to attract British investors to invest in the energy sector in Sindh.
