BOGOTA: Colombia produced 1.02 million 60-kg bags of washed arabica coffee in May, the national coffee federation said on Tuesday, up 65% from the same month last year because of a low comparative.

The country produced 616,000 bags in May 2021, the federation said in a statement, the first time it has offered a production figure for that month.

“It is worth remembering that in May 2021 there were protests and road blockades in the country that impacted diverse sectors, including the coffee sector, and therefore the production report for that month was well below those historically recorded,” the federation said.
