HAMBURG: The lowest price offered in the first round of the tender from Turkey’s state grain board TMO to buy 515,000 tonnes of animal feed barley on Tuesday was believed to be $275 a tonne c&f, traders said in initial assessments.

The offer was said to have been submitted by trading house AP Zerno. It was made for a total of 25,000 tonnes for shipment to the port of Bandirma.

No purchase has yet been reported, they said. The TMO traditionally undertakes several rounds of negotiations in tenders seeking lower offers each round. Barley shipment is sought between Sept. 1 and Sept. 15 to a series of Turkish ports.

Lowest price offered for shipment to the port of Derince was said to be $277.90 a tonne c&f, lowest to Iskenderun was $283.68 a tonne c&f, to Mersin $279.68 a tonne c&f and to Izmir $283.45 a tonne c&f.

Lowest price for shipment to Tekirdag was $283.00 a tonne c&f, to Samsun $280.00 a tonne c&f, Trabzon $280.00 a tonne c&f and to Karasu 279.00 a tonne c&f.

Provisional results of the tender are expected later on Tuesday.

Turkey is undertaking grain imports to secure local supplies with trade expectations the country will harvest smaller wheat and barley crops this year.
