SOFIA: Bulgaria's unemployment rate edged down to 6.9% in February from 7% in January, data from the state employment agency showed on Monday, when more people found work mainly in the processing industry and through government-supported schemes.

The jobless rate was 6.2% in February 2020.

There were some 4,469 less unemployed people in the Balkan country of 7 million than a month earlier, but about 22,781 more than a year before as the coronavirus pandemic takes its toll on the small and open economy.

Government support schemes for employment helped keep dole queues shorter, saving over 400,000 jobs since the start of the pandemic last March, the agency said.
