Captain Safdar granted bail, Maryam announces

  • Maryam also said not once did she think PPP was behind Safdar's arrest.

The Judicial Magistrate East has granted bail to Captain (retd) Safdar's bail in "violating the sanctity of Mazar-e-Quaid" case on Monday.

The husband of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz was bailed by a court in return for Rs100,000 surety bonds.

The development comes shortly after Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)’s press conference, where Maryam Nawaz said that her husband, Safdar, had been released on bail.

Following the arrest of captain (retired) Safdar on Monday morning, Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's (PML_N) leader Maryam Nawaz and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman addressed a press conference.

In his address, Rehman who is the head of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) condemned the manner and said the way in which Safdar was arrested is shameful. He asked whether this is the respect for a woman in our society.

The JUI-F further said that the government has failed to create a rift between the opposition parties. He contended that the attack is not on Maryam but on the entire PDM, adding that Maryam is a guest of the Sindh government. He demanded that Safdar should be released.

In her address, Maryam narrated the morning's event saying that she and her husband were sleeping when she heard someone's door being knocked on loudly. On inquiring, Safdar found police outside their room and told him he was under arrest.

Safdar told them he will change and take his medicine since he is diabetic, but they broke down the door and came inside, Maryam said. "Safdar asked them to not enter since I was inside but they did and arrested him," Maryam said.

Sindh govt unaware of Capt. Safdar’s arrest, terms it an attempt to divide opposition

The PML-N leader said not once did she think that PPP was behind the arrest. She continued that both Bilawal Bhutto, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah phoned her and expressed their embarrassment over the arrest.

The Sindh CM told me what happened today and I know all the details, the PML-N leader said. “I know who is responsible. Arrest me in front of everyone if you have the courage, she said.

During her address, she announced that Safdar has been granted bail and they will together leave Karachi. She said she was just informed of this update by PML-N's Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Safdar was arrested today after a first information report was registered against Maryam, Safdar and 200 others for violating the sanctity of the Quaid's mausoleum.
