MQM's founder Altaf Hussain fined over 2 million pounds by UK government
- In case of non-payment of fine, Hussain may have to go to jail.
A British court has ordered the founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain to pay over Rs 440 million on tax evasion charges.
As per details, the court stated that Hussain did not pay any tax from 1995 to 2015 despite being a British citizen. Despite Hussain's monthly expenses being up to 50,000 pounds, he never paid taxes.
In the court, the lawyer of MQM founder argued that since his client's expenses were covered by donations, no tax was levied on him. However, the court rejected the lawyer's argument and imposed a fine of 2 million pounds on Hussain, which translates to 441 million Pakistani rupees.
In case of non-payment of fine, Hussain may have to go to jail.

Last year, the MQM founder was arrested in London for inciting violence through hate speech in August 2016. "The man, who is aged in his 60s, was arrested at an address in northwest London. He was arrested on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting offenses contrary to Section 44 of the Serious Crime Act 2007," London's Metropolitan Police said.
