A "series of procedural errors" and an erosion in standards led to the transfer of nuclear armed cruise missiles aboard a B-52 bomber from one US air base to another August 30, senior air force officials said on Friday.
"A series of apparent errors led to a breakdown in munitions handling procedures and resulted in our improper and unauthorised transfer of six weapons," Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne said. Major General Richard Newton blamed the transfer on "a series of procedural errors" and an erosion in standards at both Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota and Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana.
