Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said a modern system of emergency (MES) has been introduced in as many as 11 teaching hospitals of the province and latest healthcare facilities were being provided to patients free-of-cost at district, tehsil and union council levels.
He was talking to newsmen after inaugurating emergency block set up under the new system at Jinnah Hospital here on Monday. Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed, Punjab Health Secretary Rashida Malik, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Dr Sibt-ul-Hassan and MS Jinnah Hospital Dr Zahid Pervaiz were also present.
The chief minister maintained that Health Sector Reforms Programme has been initiated in the province at a cost of Rs six billion. He further said provision of timely medical facilities in emergency wards was an important feature of the health policy.
"A 100-bed emergency ward has been established in Jinnah Hospital at a cost of Rs 80 million where modern medical equipment has been installed, besides free medicines would be provided. A vigilance system has also been devised for effective monitoring of treatment being provided to the patients in emergency ward. Similarly, special measures have been adopted for the treatment of persons injured in accidents," he added.
He also unveiled the foundation stone of separate emergency ward for children and mothers in Jinnah Hospital. He also visited the emergency ward of the hospital and inquired from the patients about the treatment facilities being provided to them.
