Jordan's King Abdullah II held talks Sunday with the chief of the US Central Command, General John Abizaid, which focused on the future of the kingdom's war-torn neighbour Iraq, an official report said.
The state Petra news agency said Abdullah and Abizaid "examined the latest developments in the region, especially the future of Iraq," but offered no specifics.
They also discussed military co-operation between Amman, a reliable US ally in the tense Middle East, and Washington at the talks which were also attended by the head of Jordan's intelligence services, General Saad Khair, it said.
Abizaid, whose family is Lebanese, is a specialist in Arab affairs. He has responsibility for 250,000 US soldiers deployed in 25 countries from the Horn of Africa to Pakistan, including the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan.
